Experian’s industry-renowned Commercial Delphi v.4 is designed to predict the likelihood of business failure over a 12-month period, enabling users to make quick, confident and consistent credit decisions on businesses.

The Commercial Delphi v.4 has been enhanced to improve the performance levels and predictive power of the score taking into account the latest data, economic and regulatory conditions.

What's changed?

There are three primary changes to the new Commercial Delphi v.4 which includes additional segmentation and revised risk bands. These are outlined below.

  • Expansion of the Good/Bad Definition

We have included additional company statuses in the good/bad definition.

  • Revised Segmentation

We have introduced a segmentation for listed Companies and an additional segment for thin file Companies with limited information available on the bureau. The comparative segmentation is as follows:

Commercial Delphi 2 Segments Commercial Delphi 4 Segments
    Non-researched Non-SME Non-researched Non-SME
    Non-researched SME Non-researched SME
    Researched Non-SME Researched Non-SME
    Researched SME Researched SME
    Listed
    Thin File
  • All non-listed companies will still segment into Researched and Non-Researched.
  • The ‘Researched’ and ‘Non-Researched’ remains unchanged and still segments into SME and Non-SME.
  • Revised Risk Bands

New risk bands have been introduced to provide further granularity and ensures that the majority of the population is not condensed in the middle risk bands. The new bands are illustrated in the table below:

    Risk Grade Score Band
    Not Scored 0
    Maximum Risk 1 - 35
    High Risk 36 - 43
    Average Risk 44 - 50
    Below Average Risk 51 - 69
    Low Risk 70 - 88
    Very Low Risk 89 - 100

Benefits of the Commercial Delphi v.4:

  • Increased predictive strength
  • Improved stability
  • Populations and sub-populations treated appropriately based on revised segmentation
  • Enhanced risk grade granularity
